I've just got back from a jog/walk up the hill behind our house. I say jog/walk but going up was definitely mostly walking, and serious gasping for air. Coming down was mostly walking again, but only because it would have been pretty unsafe to jog down those slippery steps. That's ok, I'll use any excuse I can.
I'm thinking that I might sign up for the Harbour Capital 10k run . Bit of a bugger that 10 km is the shortest distance they do, because I've got quite a bit of work to do still. At the gym I still struggle to get to 3 km.
So, Claire is away. It certainly makes things quite different around the house. Normally I quite like cooking up big meals, and spending up to an hour in the kitchen doesn't bother me at all. But cooking for just one person doesn't really seem worth it. I've decided that Colin, you are right! Mixing the rice into the sauce is a bad idea, especially when you're planning on it being leftovers for the next two nights. The rice can turn out pretty gooey after reheating.
Not much new has happened on my end. I still haven't started on my PhD project, I'm due for a meeting with Dale (my supervisor) on Tuesday to talk about where/how to start. The first few weeks/months are supposed to be pretty boring, just reading and reading academic papers and journals and things so that you know what has happened before. Obviously no point in reinventing the wheel, and after you've read all the relevent stuff you can call yourself an expert in the field.
I'm looking forward to next week. I'm travelling up to Hamilton under the disguise of meeting the other members of the Ranged Imaging project, but really I just want to see my Claire.
