I have a dumb cold / flu. I can never tell the difference between them really. Generally if it's dumb enough that I decide not to go to uni I'll call it the flu. So I've been entertaining myself at home by reading books and watching old Transformers cartoons. Now I wouldn't expect many readers here to know, but the storyline of the Transformers series is broken up into two pretty seperate parts, and what fills the gap is an animated movie they released back in 1986. Yesterday I spent $25 at the warehouse to buy this movie so that I could correctly watch the series in order (thanks Dave for letting me borrow your 17 DVD box set).
I think that I've spent $25 on possibly the worst movie ever made. Here are some interesting facts/thoughts about the original Transformers movie (not to be confused with what we saw in cinemas last year):
1) It features the voice talents of Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle and Orson Welles.
2) It has a lot of 80s hair metal rock music playing at rather inappropriate times.
3) It doesn't even correctly fill the gap in the storyline!!
4) If you're watching Transformers for the purpose of enjoying a good, well thought out plot, you're watching the wrong show.
5) In some ways it reminded me of the cool animated parts of Pink Floyd's "The Wall".
In reference to point number 2, I've decided that there probably never is an appropriate time for 80s hair metal, least of all during a slow motion sequence of Optimus Prime's heroics.
I think I'll also relate a funny incident that happened this morning. Claire had gone to work and I was reading in bed, since I had no plans to get out of bed until much later in the day. A few minutes after Claire has left she calls me on her cellphone. The conversion went something like: "I can't get my keys out of the car!?", "Did you try fiddling with the steering wheel, sometimes in my car...", "Yes, it doesn't seem to work, and keeps beeping at me", "ok, I'll come on down and see what I can do". I get to where Claire has parked, her usual Sunday spot, and she has left it in the hands of some other Dick Smith staff who are also quite confused by the situation. Imagine my relief when the first thing I do is put the gear into Park, and the key comes right out.
Oh, Claire! I love you so.

haha, i have definitely done the key thing before. very nice.
also, i very much enjoyed the recent transformers movie, much to the dismay of many of my friends. the cartoon is, as you say, another story. however, i do love 80s music, so i would probably love it.
