Make way for Meeces!

We went and bought Claire's christmas present today. She now has a small mischief of mice to entertain her with a cool new cage to go with them. Google explained to me that a group of mice is called a mischief, which is just cool. They are all females with solid colours; white, brown and black, and their names are Miss Femto Faraday, Miss Pico Pascal and Miss Nano Nietzsche.

Special thanks to Conrad our landlord for helping me out with this present. I asked his permission if we could have mice, and when he agreed I asked him to post me that in writing on his company letterhead to make it look good and formal. It read "I hereby authorise that the tenants at [our address] are entitled to keep a mischief of mice as pets." Dated this 25th day of December, 2008.

Right now Bean is having a really good look at them - no doubt trying to pronounce Nano's last name.

Christmas this year was much better than last year. Last year Claire was a retail slave and couldn't string together enough days off to see her parents. This year she has from christmas eve until the 5th of January off work, so we travelled up to Opotiki. I'm sure Claire can tell the story better, but I'll just mention that Claire and her sister Anna bought Julie a little fluffy white puppy. Despite its small ratty size, I'll admit that he is really quite cute.

I got so many presents from Claire's family that I don't want to attempt to list everything because I'll likely miss something out. Julia also gave us a gift for our 1st Anniversary which is on the 12th of January - a voucher for 4 wheel driving in Kapiti. I'm definitely looking forward to that.

On Boxing Day we went fishing with Jeff. I was initially a bit concerned, since the last time I went out I ended up feeling pretty sick. But this time the weather was really beautiful and we were catching so much fish I didn't have time to feel poorly. Jeff had the catch of the day - a massive snapper that had to be pretty much folded in half to get it into the chilly bin.

We left Opotiki for Hamilton on the 27th and caught up with Nathan for some trivial pursuit action. I should mention that Anna bought us an electronic trivial pursuit game and you can download question categories from the internet. I even downloaded an entire category dedicated to Transformers :)

Anna also organised for us to go the Twenty20 Cricket on the 28th which I really liked. It wasn't so much Claire's thing, so we did lots of shopping that day to make it up to her.

I'm really quite tired now. I think I picked up a cold or maybe it's just some stupid hay fevery thing since I have been sneezing a lot. It's only just passed 6 pm and I already feel like I could go to bed and sleep until morning. That's what I think I like most about holidays - no plans, and time of day doesn't matter.

Merry Christmas everyone!

So many photos of cute animals, and some of a dog as well :P

PS: Bean, I've heard it pronounced "nee-chee", "nee-cha" and "nee-chay", so I guess we'll have to ask a German to find out for sure.
