a collection of memories in 3-verse form

The pet names
The first I can remember
there was D-for-dog
while D-for was still around
along came C-for-cat

A few years later
a black cat: "Maori Girl"
how absolutely delightfully
politically incorrect

Then I met Oscar, a little tan
sausage dog who tried to nip my nose off
his name seemed...
somewhat incongruous

The rugby
Gathered at my
parents' house
we'd watch early morning
games of rugby

Eating party mix and
potato chips
at 4am and
cheering at the tries

On the driveway afterward
in the car they'd get
and we'd say our goodbyes
until next time.

The weta
little C: "O my god, look at that weta up there!"
[points to unusually large specimen
at top of garage door]
big C: "That one? That's just a baby!"

little C:"Whatever, you wouldn't touch that!"
[looks to big C for reassurance...]
big C: "I would!"
[picks up weta in palm of hand]

little C takes off,
with a little trail of dust,
around the house;
big C chases after her!

The bagpipes
big C: "did you know that
a cat can play the bagpipes?"
little C: "um..."
big C: "See? I'll show you."

[big C picks up cat
places it under arm
picks up tail and
places its tip in his mouth

big C bites gently on tail
simultaneously pumping
on cat's torso]
"See? The cat's playing the bagpipes!"

Sunday 31st May, 2009
We arrived at 10.30am for the wedding of Chris and Karen scheduled for 11 o'clock. At 10.55am, Chris was still wearing shorts, a t-shirt and jandals (or maybe bare feet?). A stressed groom...?

Fashionably late, as to be expected, a gorgeous Farac-to-be walked down her red carpet with Oscar the dog as her ring-bearer towards the already-Farac she was to marry, who had managed to get dressed, finally, into suitable wedding attire. Karen became Karen Farac and Oscar handed out the rings admirably.

Chris and Karen - sorry we couldn't come and see you on Monday... Wellington is such a long drive away and we had to go the long way round too cos we presume the Desert Road was closed. I trust you enjoyed your day and the clean-up wasn't too much of a mission. Thanks so much for inviting us, we hope you enjoy your presents :)
