and one of Armi (looking very pleased) and her new friend for good measure:

Bean has a shaved hindquarter where he had his op on Monday. It went fine, although they discovered an extra (tiny) fracture which didn't show up on the xray, which meant the best thing for the dislocation was to take the head of the femur off. Apparently cats do fine with this, they take weight off of that leg, and the muscles hold it in the right place. Weird, huh? And it means there won't be arthritis (on that side, at least) because there's no 'ball' to rub against the socket.
He wasn't that happy when I went to see him on Tuesday (couldn't on Monday - vets advised against it since he was still anaesthetised) - he was looking at me with big, annoyed, confused eyes wondering, I think, why he was sorer now than when he first went in.
Anyway, the muppet is coming back from the op well. He is getting frustrated and bored though, I think, so at least that will hopefully get a little better when he comes home. The plan is to bring him home tomorrow (the vets have loaned us a lovely big crate for him). Hopefully he'll be a little less bored and a bit more happy here. Though he is getting spoilt at the vets, having tuna and a wee heat pad that they give to all the cats to lie on.
I'm looking forward to it though. Sometimes Bean is the only one who understands
