goede middag

so.... today I'm quite bored. What do I want to learn/ read about? Now that my course is done [yay for me!] I figure that I should continue trying to learn something, not necessarily work related, just since my brain is having a break from uni sciencey stuff.

I searched for 'learn dutch' on youtube and I got this guy. He's awesome. I don't know why he's funny, but he is. Or maybe it's just me laughing at me trying to learn dutch. Anyway, here's what I have so far:

goedemorgen = good morning
goeden avond = good evening
goedemiddag = good afternoon
hallo, hoi = hello
hoe gaat het?, hoe is het?, alles goed? = how are you?
dankjewel = thank you (casual)
dankuwel = thank you (more respectful)
graag gedaan = you're welcome [this one is mean to spring on a learner!]
wat is jouw naam? = what is your name?
waar woon jij? = where do you live?
dag, doei = goodbye

knopje = button
bank = couch
raam = window
huis = house
boek = book
bloem = flower
schilderij = painting [for the record, the fact that I know as much as a non-Dutch person can know how to say the 'ij' sound makes me proud]
mobiele telefoon = mobile phone
hond = dog
televisie = TV
licht = light [is this 'it's light outside' as well as 'i changed the light fitting'?]
nummer = number
spiegel = mirror

jij bent zo lief = that one's for adrian <3
ik heb heel veel plezier met jou = yep, I got the giggles when he said this one

het is koud = it's cold

See for my handwritten notes and pronunciation guide. Incidentally, it never fails to intrigue me how very sloped my handwriting looks, mainly because I never realise I am doing it while I'm writing. It's only when it's scanned and on screen (where everything's meant to be all straight and pretty?) that it looks so damn crooked.

HA! i thought you were learning afrikaans when I saw the title of your post because it's "goeie middag" in afrikaans!!! it's "goeie more" (good morning) here still.
