With only 18 (!) sleeps to go, I thought I might put our itinerary on here for those interested.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sat 1st - Wellington -> Auckland -> San Fransisco -> Austin. Arrive in Austin late at night, check in to our hotel.
Sun 2nd - rental car and tickets to SF Fiesta (San Antonio) booked (trip to SF subject to change depending how we feel)
Mon 3rd - rental car again today. Free day in Austin.
Tue 4th - first day of conference. I'll have to entertain myself, perhaps go along or maybe just stay at the hotel.
Wed 5th - conference. Conference dinner in evening.
Thur 6th - conference. Adrian's talk is today, somewhere in the 3 - 4.45pm slot. Will have to go to that :)
Fri 7th - free day in Austin again, this time with no rental car. Hopefully this is one of the less humid days so we can comfortably have a look around on foot.... fingers crossed.
Sat 8th - Austin -> Washington DC -> Miami (flight times we wanted meant we couldn't go direct from Austin to Miami. Shame we didn't have enough time to get off in Washington DC to have a look around. Next time!). Arrive Miami late at night. Check into hotel for two nights.
Sun 9th - free day in Miami. We're still to investigate perhaps visiting the space center at the Cape but it's about 340 km away so would have to be on a tour bus or last minute car rental if we do go.
Mon 10th - embark on cruise [click on 'Itinerary Details' tab] at port of Miami, sail to Grand Bahama Island.
Tue 11th - Grand Bahama Island, then sail to Nassau. We booked "Freeport Biking" excursion for this day - 13 mile bike tour - bet I'll be sore that evening. Will have to go to the spa ;)
Wed 12th - Nassau, then sail to Great Stirrip Cay. Might do the "Discover Atlantis" tour this day, not sure yet.
Thur 13th - Great Stirrup Cay, then sail back to Miami
Fri 14th - disembark in Miami. Pick up rental car and drive to Orlando. Check in to our Disney Resort, Pop Century. If we feel up to it, the Epcot park has a late night tonight until 12am.
Sat 15th-Mon17th - will be split up between Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. I'm not sure if the pass we got allows us to go to Animal Kingdom also, but if it does we will probably also check that out :)
Tue 18th - Orlando -> Chicago -> St. Paul (Minnesota). Arrive mid-afternoon in St. Paul to meet Matt and Jacinda!
Wed 19th-Thur 20th - full days in St. Paul/ Minneapolis (incidentally the Minneapolis website is pretty hideous). I kind of want to visit Mall of America because it is the largest in the country and has a theme park inside it (if we're not theme-parked out by now!), and a flight simulator, aquarium and heaps of other stuff! But the rest I'm going to leave up to our lovely and capable tour guides, Matt and Jacinda.
Fri 21st - St. Paul -> San Fransisco -> Auckland -> Wellington
Sat 22nd - dance around in lost space-time
Sun 23rd - Arrive Wellington in the morning. End of holiday :(

Writing it all down makes me realise how lucky I am/ we are and gets me even more excited!

woohoo! we're so excited to have you! sorry i've been the worst pen pal ever and STILL haven't written back. i'll write you a nice long email instead since a letter probably won't get there before you leave. are you sure there's nothing you want to do/see besides the mall of america?
We have our Lonely Planet and some of the things it suggests sound interesting, Minneapolis: Guthrie Theater and its Endless Bridge... Cycling at the lakes... St. Paul: Paddleboat... It also says "some of the scenic southwest can be seen on short drives from the twin cities". Adrian and I would be up for this - we like road tripping and scenery :)
