25th October: Lifou, New Caledonia

After breakfast and some photos from the shore of Lifou, we took the tender boat to the shore at about 10.15am.

We walked up a hill path (saw lots of beautifully coloured butterflies, as well as skinks like we have at home, and singing birds) to the church "our lady of Lourdes" which was being rebuilt. It looked like they were recladding (right word?) over the top of the original concrete. Then we walked over the back of the arrival jetty to "Baie de Janik"  where Adrian had a swim and I relaxed (doing absolutely nothing quite happily, which is rare for me. But this was a great place for it!) on the shore.   I was too chicken to go for a swim but I was a bit annoyed at myself because it was such a beautiful day and place. Never mind, tomorrow at Isle of Pines I would go.

Walking back to the tender boat jetty meant we walked past the swimming beach and saw a couple of big turtles (50 cm?) just floating about being turtles. Nice :)

In the evening just on departure from the port, the weather conditions were favourable enough to allow the Pacific Cirque show upon deck 12. There is a big steel arch-type structure above the deck and there were trapeze artists, gymnastics, aerial silks, juggling, etc. It was unbelievable.

We then bought flashing P&O souvenir glasses with cocktails in them and watched the sunset.
