May 19, Part 2

They have very long days here, sunrise 4.50am sunset 9.24pm today. But it is light lots longer after that - last night we got in at about 10.15pm and it was still light then. Adrian is having a shower now and it's 5.30am. He woke up about an hour ago and when he wakes up he cannot sleep again :( You could still hear the drunken people coming home from their Saturday night out last night when he woke up!        / Anyway, we are awake now. Things seem to be delayed in opening times (a summer thing or not??) - shops don't seem to open until 11am or noon and breakfast at the hotel doesn't open until 8am. Tivoli Gardens was open last night until midnight. We stayed there until around 10. It was nice and sunny yesterday afternoon; the 'heat' of the day seems to be around 5pm. We walked through a lovely park to get to Tivoli (lucky it was lovely because we went the wrong way through it!) and there were lots of lovebirds sharing blankets and kissing and cuddling by the lake, and families picnicking and playing games in theatre sun. Cute!        / Tivoli Gardens was neat. Dad told me a story of when he went there in the 70s and was told off by a policeman for picking flowers from the gardens for a pretty girl he had just met! Sadly these days I think more effort goes into the food stalls and rides, though the gardens are still pretty. There were lovely tulips which of course are not common in NZ so nice to see them. We went on most of the rides. On this one (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Flyer_(thrill_ride)) I had to close my eyes - just too high!         / Yesterday afternoon we also walked up the tower at Von Frelers kirke (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Our_Saviour,_Copenhagen) - 400 steps apparently. The worst bit was not the steps but the fact there seemed to be way too many people in the tower - people needing to come down when there was no room on the steps and vice versa. I didn't really like the open bit at the top because it just felt like there were too many people up there. Luckily, we were in the last group admitted for the day, so we didn't have to deal with people coming up when we were going down.         / Day 2 starts in a couple of hours!

I put those slashes in in lieu of having proper paragraph breaks. Better than nothing!
