I don't understand some people

Our house was broken in to today.

We left at 920am, me to uni, Claire with her Mum to do whatever it is they do and then drop her off at the airport. Claire comes home at about noon and finds our drawers have been rummaged through and stuff is missing. Mostly electronic stuff, eg, stereo, dvd player, ipod and digital camera, plus a few men's perfumes of mine. Very metrosexual thieves.

We suspect they came through the bathroom window, since there is dirt on the basin and it seems like things have been moved around a bit more carefully in their.

What I don't really understand is not the stuff they took, but the stuff they didn't. Thankfully they left all of Claire's jewellery, even though in the course of their rummaging through our bedroom they would have seen all sorts. I wonder if they were actually looking for something specific, like more ipods?

We're trying not to move too much stuff around so the police can have a look. So until they arrive, which will likely be tomorrow morning, we have to live around the mess that they made. I'm hoping for a full-on CSI investigation, but I'm not expecting anything more than a report for insurance's sake.

What do people do after they have been burgled? What can we do to feel secure again?

That sucks, I really hate crime/criminals, the high cost of anguish to the owners for the dismal resale value of stolen second hand goods.
Get a German Shepard (preferrably ex police issue), name it Colin.
Or you could hit your landlord up for security catches on all windows and an electronic alarm.
I like the dog idea better.
Love.
