Statistics

You know, I thought statistics was the more 'normal' out of the two main branches of maths i.e. calculus and stats (prizes (not real ones) for the people who got the very weak pun). Well, today, my myth was dispelled. I wrote it down to share with all of you:

[Seriously, I had just gotten to understand how one set of brackets means something different to another kind of bracket, and now they're telling me they can all represent each other??} HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that last bracket wasn't even on purpose. How perfect.

You see, I have decided to undertake a few extra papers at uni to bring me up to speed in my job. One of those has to be Statistics, because as you might remember from previous blogs, I have done calculus before, but I have never done a formal course in statistics. And my job is mainly, well, statistics. So, it turns out that everyone else thinks I'm ready to jump into second year statistics except me. So in true pessimist fashion, I set out to prove everyone else wrong. Working with the STAT131 student notes, by about page 6 I was feeling in control. Page 7 however, drew comments like "Really?", "What?", "Are you serious?" - and these weren't just comments in my head. Noooo, I felt so strongly these emotions that I actually wrote them on the page. It's like a little conversation between myself and the pages in the life of STAT131.

Anyhoo... I guess I shall have a little giggle at the tutorial exercises and see how I get on.

I calculated yesterday that there were 6 more sleeps until Germany. Then I wondered whether being on a plane counted as one, or two, or none sleeps. Then Adrian reminded me that we are staying in Holland the first night. So as you can see, my calculation became a lot more complicated and I gave up. Suffice to say, it's not very long! Hopefully we will get to blog/ facebook while we're over there.

Love xxx
