Bean is having his operation today at 2pm.
The broken hip, they are leaving to heal itself, they say it may cause a bit of arthritis in the long run, but there are is medication to help him if that does happen. Also, if it gets really bad, there is another surgery they can do that gets rid of the arthritis altogether.
The dislocated hip, ironically, is the one which needs the surgery. Bean's muscles are too strong for them to be able to grab the joint and pop it back in because it is so drastically in the wrong place, and being held in place by these 'wrong' muscles. So they need to go inside, grab the bone, put it back, and stitch it and the muscles back into the right place. Then after a few weeks the stitches will dissolve; this should give it time to begin healing by itself and be strong enough to walk on.
Adrian visited him this morning, and I will go this afternoon, but I don't know how lucid he'll be after the surgery anaesthetic ;)
