Today has been pretty bad for procrastinating. I have the last piece of assessment for my paper on Thursday at 10, the second test, worth 25%. I don't have all my marks for the other assessed bits, and won't have by then, so don't really know how much I need to pass (it would be nice to have an idea). However, at this point I'm pretty over it and I just want it to be over. Today and tomorrow are going to suck cos I know it's coming. Then on Thursday I'll be all happy probably!

October 2nd-5th I went to see my parents in Opotiki. Here are some photos. I had quite a nice time. I always get pretty well spoilt, and although the weather was crap we managed to entertain ourselves pretty well.

The new Opotiki Museum was pretty impressive. I remember it from when I was little as a big dusty hall... with rusting tractors and a scary dentist chair and some tools. Yep, that's about it. And I'm not a huge museum fan anyway. So when Mum suggested we should go visit, I was like '.yay.'. But I kind of wanted to go anyway since Dad had been putting in volunteer hours painting the walls and some of the exhibits and generally helping out I think. Anyway, so we went down there, and since it was a Sunday and it wasn't actually open to the public, we were all by ourselves. The bottom floor is a revamped version of the old stuff that was there - tractors/ farm equipment, stationary motors, agricultural stuff, saddlery, basically old life in Opotiki.

The second floor was a photo floor - lots of photos dating back to about 1860 ish of people and buildings around the town. Highlights for me were the photos of the old town buildings way back then.

The third floor was more modern-museum-y. Little recesses had been cut into the wall - about 10 or 12 of them I think - and each had been set up as a 'room' of some kind. A sewing room, a bar, a ship's cabin (complete with hanging basket to save stuff from rats), a whaling hut, a bedroom and more. They were really neat. And the rest of the floor had a lot of Whakatohea/ Maori stuff - old carvings, cloaks, photos etc.

All in all, it was very well done.

The photo shows Alfie in a replica of a horse-drawn carriage.

Also there's a photo of Pun, our cat at home. He's about thirteen, and looking pretty spunky I think ;)
