here, the tui sing
the moreporks hoot
and Wellington glistens on the water
from our much-appreciated deck
the wind blows but
the sun shines
the washing on the line feels
cold from the Northerly
Armi brings in
skinks, wetas, blackbirds
all unassuming, innocent and (trying to)
go about their separate ways
Doris the spider
keeps us company
leading her complex and alien
life on the brick and mortar
now, this phase ends and
a new one starts
trading glittering harbour reflections
and comforting small town-ness
for hot summers
and warmer winters
Rangitoto Island and the Sky Tower
exciting city hustle and bustle
Wellington, our
'Honeymoon' home
we have enjoyed your quirkiness
and being residents of our capital
will the tui still sing?
will the morepork still hoot?
Coolest little capital in the world,
I would not be surprised if we return, one day.
